15$ Commissions

Tue Nov 10, 2009, 9:32 PM
Because I'm poor(when haven't I been?) and I need to at least make something before my medical bills get heavy. OHIP doesn't cover everything and taking expensive medicine is not fun, but I need it. I've done well with commissions in the past, and where I am, part time jobs were hard to get before the recession. I don't deal well mentally with any job that deals with handling money upfront(the doctor told me to quit because I was having break downs and have gotten worse mentally since, that was five years ago.) and I have a hearing issue with taking in information so I can't work at a call centre either(number one reason why I hate phones and ventrillo.) And at least art is something I know I can do and leaves me enough time to do the math out on paper(can't do it in my head, I have to prepare my change before I even buy something.) It's not about anything else right now, I need to deal with the meds first. At least something to get back in the swing of things, and I'll see if I can get more jobs. At least therapy is covered.

So I'll do 15$ commissions, full colour, but speed painty-ish. Only take paypal, note me with details.

I'll see if I can get at least 5 slots.

1. Skylor - Paid
2. siontiger - Pending
3.

Copypasta but good for critiques

Mon Nov 9, 2009, 11:16 PM
I took this from CA.org and thought you guys might benefit from it. I take no credit for it, you can find the stickies in the Critique & WIP Showcase. This is good for people who give critiques and those receive them. I learned something from this as well.

To be clear, these are a list of common critiques that pop up.

I hope that was helpful to you all. I'm absorbing a lot of information as of late and applying it full force. If you want me to make more journals like this just let me know.

Are people really getting snow?

Sat Nov 7, 2009, 9:24 AM
I'm in the most southern part of Ontario and I haven't seen any snow yet. Yet people south of me seem to be getting some snowfall. Weird, we usually don't get snow here until late November at the earliest, and storms don't usually come until late December or early January. I'm just going to chalk it up to the fact that where I live we mostly get lake effect snow. A lot of systems pass over us.

Give me all your snow plzkthxbye.

Some people you should check out

Tue Nov 3, 2009, 4:05 PM
:iconcola73:: This guy has some awesome paints. Really classic high-quality stuff.
:iconbopchara:: Great sense of value and interesting subjects. It's going to be fun watching him grow.
:iconphillgonzo:: I originally saw this guy's fanart on another site and had no clue he was on DA, or that he was working on some cards. I really like his work, it's very solid, like I could touch it.
:icongingashi:: This guy has a line-quality that makes me envious. He's currently got a comic series going called TENANTS, you should check it out.
:iconwhoreray:: Back when I was still new to the Internet, I realized I could search for werewolves stuff and art and find other information instead of just looking at TV sites. I found this guy's art on a site I don't even think exists anymore and would look at it every single day. He was a great source of inspiration for me back then and I still use that inspiration now.
:iconjonhodgson:: I wish there was an option where I could favourite an entire gallery. That's all I have to say.
:iconzyklon8b:: I really wish I could articulate what I like about certain art pieces a little bit better. And I really wish he'd upload more, this guy has some interesting concepts. Everything is detailed too. I don't know what it is about him, but he stands out to me. Often times I'll skip artists because it just looks like the same thing over and over again, but I really like his work and I've yet to put it in adequate words to explain why.

Go check them out, they could really use some more attention.

BTW, figured I'd share something I did yesterday: [link]

Back to the grind.

Is it OK to have no life if...

Mon Nov 2, 2009, 5:46 AM
You're dedicating the time to art?

Because I just dedicated 12-14hours to art studies, finishing up some WIPs and trying to be social with some artists. I am wired. It's 8:30 AM, and I'm only a little bit tired. I'm on meds again, except they wont work for another 2-3 weeks, but I have the side effects. I have to drink more water now, which is good I guess because I never really did before. I've woken up twice where I had to rush to drink some water because I almost passed out from dehydration. I'm not used to this, hah. So 4 tall glasses a day for me, which is like the 8 regular glasses you're supposed to have. I don't know how people do this.

Art's keeping me really busy, at least I'm improving and that's the general idea. I plan to focus on proportion and form this month. Will be doing a bunch of Loomis/Bridgeman/Hogarth/Posemaniacs and some guy who's name starts with a 'V' that I can't remember. I'll probably do master copies from William Bouguereau as well, because he is awesome. I don't have much time for anything anymore, maybe a game or two here and there, chatting with friends. Wont get to watch as many streams or stream myself, and that's just as well because that hogs a lot of bandwidth and can easily go over your monthly download cap. I learned that the hard way.

The good thing about stressing over art is that it's keeping me from stressing over other things. And I'd rather have that, because when I improve people tell me so that makes it more bearable. I've been getting a lot of help lately from people on CA.org.

Well I'm off to sleep, or eat, or maybe both. Both would be good.

Keep rockin' it.
